Privacy Policy


This policy identifies and describes the way Maine Cancer Foundation collects information and uses the information we collect through our informational or fundraising websites.

Information we Collect

When you donate to Maine Cancer Foundation, register for one of our events, programs, third party events, purchase a product or other services through our websites, we will ask you to provide non-public personal information. Some examples include:

  • Contact information you provide including name, address, telephone number, email address, emergency contact information (if athletic event related)
  • Donation amount and billing information as it relates to your relationship with us, including your credit card number, security code, donation or payment data, etc.
  • Acknowledgement or “in memory of” information

The information may be combined with other information from Maine Cancer Foundation and/or other organizations. Non-public personal information is any information that is not public information.

How we Collect the Information

We collect the non-public personal information in a variety of ways, including:

  • Information you provide when you register for an event, program, third party event, purchase a product or service
  • When someone else registers you for an event, program, third party event, or purchases a product or service on your behalf
  • When you register someone else for an event, program, third party event, or purchase a product or service for someone else
  • From checks, donation forms or credit card slips relating to a registration, donation or sales activity

How we Use the Information

We may use the non-public personal information in a variety of ways, including:

  • To communicate and update you with information regarding events, programs or services you have registered for, or have otherwise indicated an interest in (ie: signing up for a mailing list)
  • To communicate and update you with regard to general foundation activities including grants awarded, upcoming events, programs or other activities
  • To request support for our mission, including, but not limited to, donations or volunteer opportunities

Information Collected from Children

Maine Cancer Foundation’s website and our signature event websites are general audience sites. We do not knowingly register or collect information from and about children under the age of 13. If you are under the age of 13 you must ask a parent or guardian to assist you with registration for any of our events or assist you with the use of our website.

Safeguarding Your Information

We do not sell your non-public personal information to third parties.

We restrict access to personal information collected on our informational and fundraising websites to our staff and others needed to provide services to you on our behalf, or in the course of conducting our day to day operations and business activities. Information is protected using various physical, technical and other accepted standards. Access to your information is restricted by unauthorized individuals.

We only share your information with other companies as necessary for them to perform services or operations on our behalf.   • To assist with verification or to prevent fraud or identity theft
  • To comply with court orders or other legal processes

Online Activity Tracking

Non-public information about your online activity may be collected in a number of ways using technologies such as cookies, and server log files. “Cookies” are bits of information that stored by your browser on your hard drive. Additionally, flash cookies, web beacons and widgets may be used. Maine Cancer Foundation uses this information to verify donor identity, to determine general geographic location, to collect browser information and other data to improve our content or in other ways.

We may provide links to other websites and or specific pages we do not control. We are not responsible for the content or privacy policy of such sites, nor do we endorse the websites, pages, services or products offered by third party sites.

Opting out of Emails and Mailing Lists

A link to unsubscribe from emails is provided at the bottom of each email we send.

Unsubscribing removes you from that specific category (ie: event specific emails, general informational emailings, etc.). To opt out of ALL email categories, click here.

Please note: unsubscribing from all emails using this form will prevent you from receiving important informational emails that relate to events you are currently registered for, or may register for in the future.

Donate Securely

Online donations to Maine Cancer Foundation and any of our signature events are done through secure third party providers. A link to each provider’s privacy policy and other information is provided.

Donor Bill of Rights

This statement of rights was developed by the following organizations: American Association of Fund Raising Counsel (AAFRC), Association for Healthcare Philanthropy (AHP), Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), and the Association for Fundraising Professionals (AFP) formerly NSFRE.

Philanthropy is based on voluntary action for the common good. It is a tradition of giving and sharing that is primary to the quality of life. To assure that philanthropy merits the respect and trust of the general public, and that donors and prospective donors can have full confidence in the not-for-profit organizations and causes they are asked to support, we declare that all donors have these rights:

  • To be informed of the organization's mission, of the way the organization intends to use donated resources, and of its capacity to use donations effectively for their intended purposes.
  • To be informed of the identity of those serving on the organization's governing board, and to expect the board to exercise prudent judgment in its stewardship responsibilities.

  • To be assured their gifts will be used for the purposes for which they were given.
  • To receive appropriate acknowledgement and recognition.
  • To be assured that information about their donations is handled with respect and with confidentiality to the extent provided by law.
  • To expect that all relationships with individuals representing organizations of interest to the donor will be professional in nature.
  • To be informed whether those seeking donations are volunteers, employees of the organization or hired solicitors.
  • To have the opportunity for their names to be deleted from mailing lists that an organization may intend to share.
