Motorcycle Specialty License Plate FAQs

How much does it cost?

A specialty plate costs $25 in addition to the regular motor vehicle registration fee. Renewal of the plates will cost $15 annually added to your regular registration fee. Click here to reserve your plate.

If I purchase a Breast Cancer Specialty License Plate for Motorcycles, what will the funding be used for?

$10 of the annual renewal fees will be transferred to a special fund for breast cancersupport in Maine. All funds raised will be split equally between Maine Cancer Foundation’s Women’s Cancer Fund, the Maine Breast Cancer Coalition’s Support Service Fund, and Maine Breast and Cervical Health Program’s mammogram fund.

How will I get my plate?

All contributors reserving a Breast Cancer Specialty License Plate for Motorcycles will receive aconfirmation from the Secretary of State’s office when the plates are available. Your original registration payment of $25 will be applied to the fee to change your existing registration to the new specialty plates.

When will the Breast Cancer Specialty License Plates for Motorcycles be ready?

First, we must obtain 500 reservations, which we hope to accomplish by December 31, 2011. If we succeed, then we hope to have our new plate ready for debut in May/June 2012, just in time for another great motorcycle season in Maine!

Can I keep my vanity plate?

Yes. The cost of the specialty plate will be in addition to your current vanity plate fees.

Can I request a specific plate number?

No, we’re sorry. You may keep your vanity plate, but cannot request a specific plate number. Specialty plates include both numbers and letters.

If circumstances do not allow this plate to be issued, what will happen to my money?

If for any reason this specialty plate is not issued, your registration payment of $25 will be refunded.
