Our Mission
The Maine Cancer Foundation (MCF), founded in 1976, is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the health and well being of Maine people by: Funding scientific laboratory and clinical research, professional and public education and patient support programs. 100% of funds raised remain in Maine.
About the Foundation
Scarcely a day goes by when the media does not report new scientific progress in understanding cancer. There is no doubt that fundamental progress in understanding and treating cancer is being made. Translating these findings into benefits for Maine people is what the Maine Cancer Foundation is all about.
A grant-making organization, the Foundation funds cancer research, education and patient support programs throughout Maine. Researchers are making progress toward understanding and curing cancers, ones that will save lives and prolong survival.
Because Maine Cancer Foundation is small and local it can quickly respond to issues relevant to Maine, such as high incidence rates and low screening rates for some cancers. There is no doubt that we are making a difference.
And because we know that science alone is not enough, we continue to underwrite Discovery Weekend (now in its 26th year), a unique retreat for cancer patients and their loved ones, distribute "Portraits of Courage, Voices of Hope" books and organize an annual symposium for oncology providers.
Our only source of funding is you and people like you who know the challenge of a cancer diagnosis and choose to do something about it. Consider participating in one of our fun special events. You'll meet nice people and have a great time all while doing something good. Or, make a donation either online or through the mail. You can also remember Maine Cancer Foundation in your will.
Your support today is a significant way to insure that progress continues. And remember...100% of funds raised stay in Maine.
