Professional Education
The Foundation hosts an annual Cancer Genetics Symposium for the state's oncologists and other health professionals.
Here physicians, nurses and scientists heard the latest information on the field of cancer genetics and familial predisposition presented by Karen Rasmussen, Ph.D., and Tracey Weisberg, M.D. and Ron Carroll, M.D., oncologist and former president of MCF. Information on the newly created cancer pedigree database and DNA and tissue bank and it's availability as a resource state wide. This Symposium will be held annually, providing education on this emerging field while providing an opportunity for the state's oncologists to meet.

Public Education
Speakers are available to discuss Cancer Genetics and Gene Testing. Audiences, many of whom have been touched by cancer in some way, appreciate learning about this recent advance in cancer medicine. Two video tapes are available on a loan basis, at no charge:- "Enriching Life Through Discovery" and tells the story of the Foundation and the progress being made in cancer medicine.
- "Conquering Cancer" is an eleven minute video for cancer patients. It was created by Judy Reynolds who lost a ten year battle with cancer this January. Despite the circumstance of her disease, she was forever bright, cheerful and a joy to be with. It was Judy's hope that it would bring strength, hope and perspective as others face their own struggle with cancer. The video was produced by Tony Vigue at So. Portland Community Television with thanks.
