Katherine S. Pope, MD

 

Background

Dr. Pope is an Anesthesiologist with Spectrum Medical Group, a large multi-specialty private practice serving several hospitals and healthcare facilities in Maine. Dr. Pope currently practices primarily at Maine Medical Center, but also has attending staff experience with Southern Maine Medical Center, Orthopaedic Associates Surgery Center, Portland Endoscopy Center, and Hospice of Southern Maine. She received her undergraduate degree from Colby College with a major in English, her medical degree from the University of Vermont College of Medicine, and her residency training in anesthesiology with a subspecialty focus on pediatric anesthesia at Maine Medical Center.

Although her professional training is in the field of anesthesiology, Dr. Pope has a strong interest in palliative and hospice care, and was a co-founder of Hospice of Southern Maine, and chaired its Board for several years.

Dr. Pope has had a long-standing interest in international medical service, and over the past 15 years has volunteered on a number of international medical mission trips to serve the indigent in developing countries, including to Ecuador, China, Haiti, Vietnam, and Mali.

Dr. Pope is also actively involved in community organizations, currently serving on several other non-profit boards, including Maine Medical Center, Maine Historical Society and Audubon Alaska. In the past, she served on the Board and as Chair of the Legislative Committee of the Maine Medical Association. Dr. Pope also currently serves on the corporate board of Medical Mutual Insurance Company of Maine.

Honors and Awards

Honors and awards include the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, Alumni Award for Service to Medicine and Community from UVM, Home Care Advocate of the Year Award from the Home Care and Hospice Alliance of Maine, the Champion award from the Alzheimer’s Association of Maine, and induction into the Deborah Morton Society from University of New England.
