Maine Cancer Foundation - Education & Support Programs

Education & Patient Support Grants

Education

Public education can have an impact on cancer by improving the level of awareness of cancer and the steps that can be taken to prevent a diagnosis; encouraging adherence to recommended cancer screenings in hopes of detecting cancer at its earliest and most treatable stage; or advancing an understanding of inherited cancers, when to be concerned and steps that can minimize risk.

Professional education efforts help support continuing education for oncology nurses and physicians; preparation for the oncology nurse specialist credentialing exam; screening and early diagnosis information for other healthcare professionals; and other needs as they arise.

Patient Support Grants

Support is essential to a positive treatment outcome and the well being of the patients, their family and their friends. Patient Support grants are awarded to assist local organizations in delivering programs in their communities. Examples include but are not limited to patient and caregiver support groups, survivorship, transportation, nutrition, and wellness programs.
